In the fast-paced world of modern education, “STEAM” is a familiar term. But at PHS, we have taken this journey a step further by adding a vital piece to the puzzle: the letter S for Social. More than just a term, this is an educational philosophy we have nurtured since 2006, officially elevated after our participation in the 2017 International Centre for Innovation in Education (ICIE) conference in Paris. 🌟

💡 Why is “Social” so important?

In the era of Artificial Intelligence and automation, technical expertise alone is no longer enough. Integrating the Social element helps our students:

• Develop emotional intelligence (EQ): Students learn to listen, empathize, and share—essential human values that machines simply cannot replicate. ❤️
• Solve community problems: Instead of just building a technical model, students ask: “How does this creation help society? Is it environmentally friendly?”
• Build confidence & resilience: Through hands-on projects, students naturally sharpen their presentation, teamwork, and leadership skills. 🤝
• Above all: We believe that Art and Social sciences are the keys to happiness, both in professional careers and in daily life.

🔬 Creative spaces & modern equipment: Our laboratories are designed with an “open” concept—true “innovation workshops.” Learning isn’t confined to four walls; it happens in the schoolyard and even the park across the street! Our equipment stays at the cutting edge of technology, from autonomous robot kits to AI software for data processing. Students don’t just learn theory; they master the tools that are shaping the future.

🎓 Teachers as mentors & companions: PHS teachers are more than subject experts; they are experienced “fire-starters.” Acting as facilitators, they guide students to explore and master knowledge within complex interdisciplinary projects. Most importantly, our teachers are lifelong learners themselves, serving as role models for every student.

📈 A comprehensive intellectual roadmap: Our curriculum is scientifically structured to progress with each grade level, sharpening students’ systematic thinking:

• For younger students: Projects start with the world around them, such as designing mini-ecosystems or exploring nutritional science through daily meals, fostering a love for nature and self-care.
• For older students: The challenge scales up to programming autonomous rescue robots or applying AI to find solutions for urban traffic and environmental issues.

The Annual SSTEAM Expo: Where art meets science

Every year, the PHS SSTEAM Expo becomes a hub of pure creativity. This is where sketches on paper transform into functional, real-world models. It is a heartwarming scene: younger students marvel at the older students’ inventions, while the seniors cheer on the little ones, saying, “That’s so cool!” or “What a fresh idea!” This mutual admiration sparks a wave of excitement as everyone prepares for their next big project.
